Statement
"Irene Murphy's artistic oeuvre has included photography, installation, performance, and public art projects. A common link in her art is ideas about performativeness, site-specificity and communality. She deals with various issues, such as transformation and displacement, value systems and identity. The materials are often recycled and unobtrusive. Murphy's art acts are private interventions into public space.
In her artistic projects Murphy attempts to transcend the artificially high barrier between the private and public. The unobtrusiveness of the Artists interventions accentuates the sensitive nature of perceptions of reality. How easily the environment becomes part of our everyday routines, while all that is odd and out of the ordinary becomes a threat, rather than an object of research into reality."

" Virtually everywhere"
I will be using the format of table coasters which are traditionally used as kitsch souvenirs of holiday destinations. these will have black and white images of old interiors which will be digitally altered to  bridge the gap between the static interior and the colour saturated exotic destinations.
